Are large scale prospective nutrition studies reliable and valid?

The short answer is essentially, “yes they are.”

This article does an excellent job of examining some of the hype in popular media on this subject and even addresses the arguments of the very few well known-detractors with real scientific credentials. I think the most important takeaway for me is that any individual observational study can be critiqued in various ways. However, when you have decades of evidence of various kinds across many different populations and cultures all coalescing on the same conclusions, it is disingenuous, to say the least, to just dismiss the meaningfulness of the research.

I hope to find time to say more about this subject in the future.
